The folks at Illahe are among the first (and only) to grow Gruner Veltlner here in the states. In fact, the clone of Gruner Veltliner grown here was acquired by Illahe from a Hungarian fighter pilot that defected to the west! The wine starts with light but dense aromas of dried peach, honey crisp apple, and fresh cedar board. This wine is fermented partially in acacia barrels which offer herbal flavors and complex texture. The palate also contains flavors of red grapefruit, graham cracker, and white nectarine.
