Pedro Parra is a genius. No really, this man is remarkable in the wine world. He’s a geologist with a PhD in Agronomy who consults with some of the most prestigious producers in Burgundy (Roulot comes to Pedro when they need advice about vineyard management) when he’s not consulting with winemakers in the United States and Chile as well. Oh yeah, he also makes some of the most expressive wines I’ve tasted in ages. His Imaginador is basically Cinsault, although there are the occasional vines of Carignan, Muscat, Semillon, and Pais randomly growing in the heritage vineyards sites he works with and scant amounts of those make their way into this wine. The nose is powerful with cherry notes and just a hint of barnyardy goodness. On the palate this is focused with loads of dark fruits and pronounced mineral structure. Burgundy drinkers would do well to take a bottle of this home.
